I didn’t think it’d be that hot here. The forecast was mid 20’s. Overcast, thunder showers. Well they lied. I’ve been melting in the shade since 7 this morning, but I’m not complaining. We’ve been here 24 hours now, and I think we’re adjusting. Everyone seems to be a bit sedated by the heat. Or it’s just the island vibe. The locals are finding it hot, everyone was out for ice cream Sunday. That’s a thing here. I think I’m in love.
Our flight arrived at the ungodly hour of 5:30AM. An hour early. A mere 8.5 hours from LAX. Getting through immigration was slow like anywhere. They only had 4 staff on, and I think we were last off the plane by some unfortunate overly polite Canadian policy. But we all eventually shuffled through, bags waiting on the other side. Alex from the bus transfer was also waiting with our Ei’s, (thanks to my AirBnB mama for setting that one up). The rental car was ready, and once through customs it was just a few minutes to pick up the car, sign off on the paperwork and head out of the lot.
Jessie (AirBnB mama) had given me thorough directions for finding the house, (with a warning that lots of her guests get lost) and gave us the go ahead for an early check in. The house is perfect. Plunge pool, large covered decks – because, you’ll want to be outside 90% of the time. Three bedrooms and all the amenities. There’s a mango tree in the front yard that must be 50 years old, coconut palms, papayas, pomegranate tree, passion fruit. There’s a peek of the ocean, the breeze makes its way up, and you can hear the surf crashing on the reef.
